Butler Co. Mom Charged After 3-Year-Old Is Found Wandering In Diaper

BUTLER, Pa. (KDKA) -- A Butler County mom is facing charges after her youngest child was found wandering by himself and her two older children had to find their own way home from school while she was alleged highly intoxicated.

It was last week on Virginia Avenue in Butler City that a mail carrier spotted a toddler running around the neighborhood, dressed only in a dirty diaper.

Police say 30-year-old Kristina Williams' 3-year-old son had gotten away from the house because she was too drunk to notice

KDKA's Mary Robb Jackson: "So what happened on [Sept. 16]?"

Williams: "I had a seizure."

Williams says she was drinking to quiet bad DTs.

"I was drinking earlier in the day," she said.

The child likely went through the backyard and up two long blocks before he met the mailman.

When an officer arrived, the little boy took off down the sidewalk, returning to his home while waving for the policeman to follow.

When asked if that was his house, police say he nodded "yes." The back door was wide open. Williams was passed out on the kitchen floor, surrounded by empty beer cans.

"I'm going to rehab," says Williams.

Police and medics were called. As they arrived, two other children, ages 6 and 10 came home. Their mother had forgotten to pick them up at school.

Jackson: "How are your kids?"

Williams: "They're good. They're with my mother."

Williams is facing three counts of endangering the welfare of children.

She told KDKA that she's been in rehab before, but hopes that because of what happened, and for the sake of her children, she'll be able to hold on to sobriety.
