Pittsburgh Sports Fans Face Tough Decision This Sunday

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pirates play a big game on Sunday and at the same time the Steelers host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Heinz Field.

Pittsburgh sports fans couldn't ask for much more this weekend. Except, perhaps, for the games to be played at different times.

So, where to do you fall on the difficult choice of who to watch?

For the Pirate faithful the goal is clear.

"Hopefully, we can get that top spot from St. Louis," said Steelers safety Troy Polamalu.

But to get there will take a complicated formula of wins and losses, and it all could come down to the final games of the regular season Sunday afternoon.

"Hopefully, San Francisco will lose again and St. Louis will lose a couple in a row, and the Buccos will have it wrapped up by then," said Ben Derek, a Pittsburgh sports fan from Mount Washington.

But if the division title or home field for the Wild Card game hangs in the balance on Sunday afternoon, the Pirates' first pitch and the Steelers' kickoff at Heinz Field will happen at the same time, leaving some fans forced to choose.

"Steelers," said one fan.

"I'll probably be paying more attention to the Pirates," said another.

But some fans refuse to choose.

"I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I'm going to watch both games," said Theresa Hayward, of Hazelwood.

"I have them on my tuner, and I'll be able to watch them both at the same time. I can just flip back and forth and not miss any plays," Raymond Gross, of Brighton Heights, added.

And some don't have a choice.

"The Pirates are going to play their game, we're going to play ours," said Steelers linebacker James Harrison. "I wish the best for them though, but I'll find out what happened after I get done taking care of our business."

"I have to do my job, so I'll be watching our game, but I wish them the best of luck," Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel said. "Obviously, it's awesome to see what those guys have done."

Fortunately, the Cardinals and Giants games don't start until 4 p.m., after the Pirates and Steelers are done.
