PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A Washington County police officer has been arrested.

Washington Police Officer 39-year-old Joshua Rush was charged on multiple counts after officials say he provided information about an investigation to a suspect.

According to the police criminal complaint, Rush has been texting a prostitute he had a sexual relationship with for several years.

When police busted the prostitute during an undercover operation, she showed them a string of text messages between herself and Rush, in which he allegedly said he would distract officers from paroling the area in which they found the woman — an area known for a large amount of prostitution.

After obtaining a search warrant, police were able to confirm that the number the woman was texting did belong to Rush’s personal cell phone.

“Law enforcement officers have a dangerous and difficult job,” said District Attorney Eugene Vittone said in a statement. “Today’s arrest should not be viewed as a reflection on other police officers in Washington.

The Washington Police Department immediately investigated information which given to them by another police officer and took the appropriate action. The investigating officers are to be commended for promptly working to insure the integrity of the criminal justice system and the safety of their fellow officers.”

Vittone says Rush is a 10-year veteran of the department.

He is charged with recklessly endangering another person, obstruction of justice and hindering apprehension.
