Mercy's Mobile Medical Health Center Hits The Streets
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Getting to the doctor's office isn't always easy or convenient, and Pittsburgh Mercy Health System has spent 310-thousand dollars to change that.
Friday they unveiled a new mobile medical health center.
It's 38-feet long, and 13-feet high, and you will soon see it on the streets of Pittsburgh.
KDKA's Rick Dayton got a look at the new roving medical lab.
"You can actually wash your hands here. You can close the door and have privacy. You can examine a patient properly. You have the tools to be able to do the job so it's tremendous to be able to have this," Dr. Todd Wahrenberger said.
In addition to two private exam rooms, there's an area for staff to take health histories and help patients sign up for medical coverage.
Three physicians will staff the unit providing care in internal medicine, pediatrics, and OB/GYN.
They will make regular stops on the Northside, Wilkinsburg, and Munhall, in addition to attending to Pittsburgh's homeless population five nights a week.
"We can do anything in here. We have a full set up lab, full set up of pharmacy, and in addition we are going to be able to do psychiatric assessments and have room for psychiatric treatment," Chief Operating Officer Ray Wolfe says.
The unit will hit the streets as of Monday, and be able to do everything from behavioral health to dentistry.
