2 Westmoreland Co. Women Accused Of Forging Oxycodone Prescriptions
GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- Two women, accused of forging and filling prescriptions for hundreds of thousands of dollars of Oxycodone, faced the judge at a preliminary hearing in Greensburg Thursday.
The suspects are identified as 25-year-old Ashley Hixon of Scottdale and 46-year-old Tammy Thomas of Mount Pleasant.
According to the criminal complaint, it was Thomas who worked in a doctor's office in Mount Pleasant and admitted to investigators she took prescription forms from the doctor's cabinet.
Hixson is said to have been her accomplice on numerous occasions.
But when Thomas was arrested last November, authorities say it was another woman at the Med-Fast Pharmacy inside the Shop 'N Save in Greensburg trying to fill a forged prescription.
Thomas was allegedly waiting for her outside in her car.
"We decided to waive the hearing," said Anthony Bompaini, Thomas' attorney. "There is no agreement in place right now and my client continues to plead not guilty."
Despite claiming to be innocent, investigators say this is how the women's alleged scheme worked - since Thomas worked in the doctor's office, when a pharmacist would call about a prescription, Thomas would take the call and approve it.
This went on for about a year, amounting to hundreds of prescriptions filled at nearly a dozen locations for at least 8,000 pills. The dollar figure in the alleged scheme totaled $240,000.
Police say Thomas told them she did it to help other people. She said she had a Master's degree and wanted to open a community clinic in Mount Pleasant.
When investigators searched her home, they found marijuana in two separate baggies, more than 200 Oxycodone pills and molly sweet tarts contaminated with LSD. It was all in Thomas' bedroom.
Police also found drug paraphernalia, like pipes and bongs and papers.
Two other suspects in this case are awaiting preliminary hearings.
