Mike Tomlin Pleased With Win Over Texans, Sees Room For Improvement

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the team's win over the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football and voiced how pleased he was with his teams performance.

"I like what transpired in the stadium," Tomlin said. "A lot of significant contributions from everyone in all three phases. Thought it was a good team win. Obviously it was not perfect, we have a lot of things to work on as we move forward, but it's good to do that with a win."

One of the things that had to be most pleasing to Tomlin was the Antonio Brown trick play they called from the 3-yard line which resulted in a touchdown, but the head coach wasn't quick to take credit for calling that play despite Ben Roethlisberger saying on his weekly radio show with Cook and Poni on Tuesday's at 11 a.m., that it was in fact Tomlin who made that call.

"I take responsibility for all calls," Tomlin said when asked if he called the play.  When pressed on the matter, Tomlin said he doesn't call all the plays and that "I'm not going to get into the intimate details about how we administer our business on the sidelines during the course of football games. I don't think that's prudent, I don't think that helps us, I'll take responsibility for it, certainly."

Tomlin also talked about the contributions of wide receiver Martavis Bryant who caught a 35-yard touchdown in his first NFL action.

"I am not going to try to make more out of it than what it is," Tomlin said.  "He made a great play, a necessary play. It is a play that he is capable of making. It's a play that we watch him consistently make on the practice field. He is still working to round out his game like a lot of young guys are, but that was a significant contribution to our efforts."

PREVIEWING THE INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

"We got the Indianapolis Colts coming in here and they're an extremely hot football team," Tomlin said about the teams next match-up. "They're scoring points in bunches. They're a rock solid group from top to bottom."

When it comes to the Colts high powered offense, Tomlin said "We got to work to minimize Andrew Luck and what he's able to do with his legs, with his arm, how he administers offense.  He's got a variety of weapons."

INJURY REPORT

"Like we talked about last night, Marcus Gilbert sustained a concussion. He'll go through the normal protocol, we'll see where that takes us over the course of the week. A lot of bumps and bruises in the game, but guys were able to return and so forth. Maybe they'll be limited at the early portions of the week, but don't anticipate anybody missing time because of what happened in the stadium last night, other than of course Marcus Gilbert. We have several guys that are working their way back and worked in some capacity last week, and I would imagine they have a pretty good chance of playing this week, talking about Shamarko Thomas and Ryan Shazier. Both guys worked in a limited capacity last week, at the 11th hour we decided to use some other people. We'll give those guys a chance to see where they are this week, but we expect both guys to be extremely close and potentially be available to us."
