Police Cracking Down On Aggressive Drivers Along Rt. 19
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – From North Strabane in the south to McCandless in the north, watch your driving on Route 19 for the next month.
It's been identified as a problem spot.
"We're seeing an increase in aggressive driving crashes over the past five years," said PennDOT safety spokesperson Juliann Sheldon. "Last year, we actually saw 53 reportable aggressive driving crashes. That's the highest number ever."
So, going forward, police along Rt. 19 will be cracking down on aggressive driving.
"Speeding, improper lane changing, changing lanes without signals, obviously running red lights, not yielding at stop signs," said McCandless Police Lt. Tom Niebel.
PennDOT has come up with $2.5 million to pay for increased enforcement on a number of problem spots all over Pennsylvania.
In McCandless you will get some warning where your state transportation dollars are at work cracking down.
"We have a four-by-four signs that says 'aggressive traffic enforcement ahead,'" said Lt. Niebel. "Try to warn the people and it's as much educational, as it is enforcement."
