Crews Respond To 2nd South Fayette Twp. Water Main Break

SOUTH FAYETTE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – For the second straight day, a water main along Boyce Road in South Fayette Township has ruptured.

According to officials, today's break happened on Boyce Street near Mayview Road around 4:15 a.m.

Gary Lobaugh, from Pennsylvania American Water Company, said, "It's probably within 20 feet of the break yesterday. We have a 70-year-old main, and last night, as we were recharging the system and the system got up and moving, we had a break on the older main, which is adjacent to the fix."

Police were out this morning directing traffic around Monday's break.

During that time, South Fayette Police Officer Jason Hensel was hit by a driver after her side mirror hit his flashlight which hit him. He was taken to the hospital with a minor injury and has already been released.

Pennsylvania American Water officials said about 200 customers will experience little or no pressure or no water at all due to Monday's break.

"Customers will temporarily have no water in the following areas: Collier Township, Cuddy, Oakdale, South Fayette Township, Upper Saint Clair, Bridgeville, and surrounding areas," the statement said.

Customers should have their service resumed by midnight.

Boyce Road is still closed between Mayview Road and Washington Pike.
