Fleury Continues Hot Start With 3rd Shutout Of Season
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - He's been booed. He's been cheered. Fans more often than not clamor for his name to be prominent in trade talks.
Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury has been a constant for the Penguins. Through a Stanley Cup title in 2009 and numerous playoff disappointments, Fleury has been the netminder for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Through the reverence. Through the naysaying.
Love him or hate him, Fleury has been dominant to begin his 11th NHL campaign. Fleury, with 295 career victories, nears the impressive 300-win plateau. As of Nov. 2, he is the league leader this season with seven victories and has recorded a trio of shutouts, most recently a 5-0, 18-save performance at home against Buffalo. The guy they call Flower has recorded shutouts in three of his last four contests.
"He was good in Nashville [a recent 3-0 victory]," head coach Mike Johnston said of Fleury. "He continued it this week right off the road trip. You can't say enough about having a goaltender play like that."
Like any productive goalie, Fleury credits the defense in front of him.
"I think the [defense] has been great," he said. "Our forwards are coming back hard and picking guys up, cutting off passes across the ice. As a team, I think we've been pretty solid. Not giving much and keeping guys on the outside. It's been good."
The 7-2-1 Penguins next play Tuesday night at Minnesota.
