Kenny Chesney Coming Back To Pittsburgh In 2015

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The last time Kenny Chesney came to Pittsburgh, the biggest story had nothing to do with music.

According to the official Twitter account for Heinz Field, Chesney is coming to town on May 30 with Eric Church.

Chesney last came to Pittsburgh in June of 2013.

During that event, 49 people were arrested inside Heinz field during the concert, with another 24 arrests taking place near the venue on the North Shore. Police say most of the arrests were for disorderly conduct, public intoxication and aggravated assault.

Additionally, police said at least 10 large fights broke out and 150 people were treated for various medical needs. Another 45 people were taken to medical facilities as well.

Chesney fans also left a wake of trash following the concert. Large groups of tailgaters left behind a sea of debris in the Heinz Field parking lot.

The concert drew more than 49,000 fans to Heinz Field for the show. Some estimates gauged the trash left behind at up to 60,000 pounds.

The mess left behind by recent country music concerts in town prompted the city to take action to develop new guidelines.

Those guidelines were put into place for a Jason Aldean show at PNC Park this summer.

Some of the restrictions put into effect included:

  • All vehicles in the designated lots were given trash and recycling bags.
  • ALCO provided 200 port-o-johns
  • No tailgating was allowed in the parking lots once the first act took the stage.
  • Anyone without a ticket to the show was asked to vacate the parking lots.

Those changes appeared to have the desired effect.

According to a statement from Mayor Bill Peduto's office, there was little trash left in the North Shore parking lots following the Aldean show.
