Rain Expected To Become Snow As Temperatures Drop

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Expect a messy Monday, weather-wise.

According to KDKA-TV Meteorologist Dennis Bowman, rain in Pittsburgh will occasionally mix with snow and will eventually change to snow this afternoon.

Northern counties can expect a more prolonged snow event is taking place today.

Much of southwestern Pennsylvania will receive light slushy snow amounts totaling about half of an inch or less in Pittsburgh, Greensburg, Indiana and points to the south.

About 1 inch is possible in Butler, 1-2 inches in Beaver Falls, and 2-4 inches seems likely along the Interstate 80 corridor, affecting places like New Castle, Mercer, Grove City, Franklin and Oil City.

The other issue coming into play is the potential for a "flash freeze" this afternoon, as colder air takes hold quickly.

The high of 37 degrees will be reached by around mid-day. However, by mid-afternoon, temperatures will be in the 20s.

Moisture on roads and sidewalks will freeze up quickly, making for hazardous driving and walking conditions.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy and very cold with a low of 13 degrees.

Tuesday looks mostly cloudy and cold with a few bursts of snow showers. The high will only be 22 degrees.
