PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Steelers safety Mike Mitchell has been making headlines the past couple of games, but it’s his response to fans after the 27-24 win over the Tennessee Titans that is drawing most criticism.
Steelers fans took to Twitter during the game complaining about Mitchell’s play during the game, some telling him he is the worst free agent signing in team history.READ MORE: Man Killed, Woman Wounded In Shooting In Parking Lot Of Ohio Movie Theater
After the game Mitchell allegedly took to Twitter, direct messaging some fans very inappropriate and disturbing comments, including telling one fan to “kill yourself.”
Mitchell also reportedly called another fan a “moron” who was begging for money, and then told him to “die broke.”
The tirade allegedly didn’t stop there, in another tweet Mitchell told another fan he was “trash.”
When asked about the tweets by KDKA-TV’s Rich Walsh, Mitchell didn’t deny sending the tweets.
“If people tweet me, I tweet them back,” Mitchell said.
Sources say the Steelers have asked Mike Mitchell to stay off social media indefinitely.
Mitchell did send a tweet out publicly about “haters.”
Mitchell finished the Titans game with five tackles.
Steelers beat writer Mark Kaboly joined Starkey and Mueller from 93.7 The Fan to talk about the incident, confirming that the team has suspended him from social media.
Last week Mitchell took a late-game dive over over the line of scrimmage at the end of the N.Y. Jets game.
Head coach Mike Tomlin called Mitchell’s dive “unprofessional.”
Mitchell is in his sixth NFL season.
He played four years with Oakland and one with Carolina before arriving in Pittsburgh this season.
He has started 11 games for the Steelers this season, recording 38 tackles and two forced fumbles.MORE NEWS: UPMC Reports Financial Growth In 2020, Operating Revenues Increased To $23 Billion
