5 Arrested On Drug Charges After Shots Fired In North Side Apartment

NORTH SIDE (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Police arrested five people on drug charges on the North Side early Sunday morning.

According to police, officers were called to an apartment building in the 2100-block of Rhine Place for a report of shots fired around 2:43 a.m.

"What led up to the drug bust was a 911 call," said Police Spokesperson Sonya Toler. "There were shots fired and police came to the scene expecting to see the results of shots being fired."

A witness pointed out which apartment where the shots had been fired. Officers noticed a smell of marijuana coming from the apartment and began moving civilians out of harm's way.

"We heard the guns last night, it was probably them showing off," said a neighbor who did not want to be identified. "It was like no beef, they just wanted to be cool in the back shooting guns and drinking."

During that time, someone came out of the apartment in question.

Officers performed a protective sweep of the apartment and found three stolen guns.

At that time, officers obtained a search warrant and found more than 600 stamp bags of heroin and a small amount of marijuana. They also found drug paraphernalia, and about $1,000 in cash.

The five people arrested have been identified as:

  • Eli Herrine, 24, of Houtzdale
  • Jemera Hibbler, 28 of Beltzhoover
  • Lavelle Johnson, 30, of the Hill District.
  • Jaquayla Kendrick, 19, of Garfield
  • Kent Morton, 26, of Brighton Heights

All are facing a list of charges including possession of illegal drugs, possession with the intent to deliver, receiving stolen property and firearms violations.
