IUP Student Crushed By Car Dies From Injuries

INDIANA, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania college student has died nearly a week after being pinned beneath a car that fell off a jack near his off-campus residence.

Indiana Borough police say 19-year-old Nicholas Landman, of Grindstone, was injured Nov. 18 while working on the car near the downtown district of the college town about 45 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

The Allegheny County medical examiner says Landman died at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh on Monday.

The cause of death is asphyxia due to chest compression.

Landman had been studying in the sports medicine program of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Friends told police Landman was working on the car when they left to get food.

They returned to find him pinned beneath the car about 20 minutes later.
