Pittsburgh Shoppers Out For Black Friday Deals

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The snowy and icy conditions Black Friday morning didn't stop shoppers from finding the best deals.

"I just gotta figure out how we're going to fit this in the car," John Spahn of Trafford said.

Spahn eventually did. He bought a 60-inch smart LED television for $799 at Best Buy at North Hills Village Mall, a steal he says he couldn't pass up.

"This is for me. We have a 42-inch now and we keep looking at it and it's getting smaller and smaller every year, so we went with the big one," Spahn said.

Best Buy was open until 1 a.m Friday. It reopened at 8 a.m.

"The great part is, this is the second year in a row we're doing a dual doorbuster so we have Thursday doorbusters and Friday doorbusters, which gives appeal as well," General Manager of Best Buy Josh Fine said.

The big doorbuster this year is a 50-inch Vizio smart LED television for $500 and store employees expect it to go fast.

In Ross Township, shoppers say they found good deals at Target – all gift cards are 10 percent off.

Target and Kohl's have been open since Thanksgiving night.

Store managers say the crowds this year are pretty much the same as last year.

Carolyn Shafer of Kittanning says she found some good deals at Kohl's.

"The sheets on sale were good, but other than that no," Shafer said.

She said she didn't have much luck at Target, but others did.

"It is a little over picked at this time but we knew that. We got our beats studios and different stuff," Holly Plocki of Sarver said.

"I'm kind of disappointed though, since I didn't get to go yesterday, but you should spend time with your family," Holly's daughter Abby Plocki said.

Some shoppers say their using Black Friday shopping as a way to spend time together.

"We're just -- it's a mommy-daughter day and we're just spending time together, having fun, we're just relaxed about it," said Susan Fanning.

Jessica Corso said it was worth it for her to go out to score deals like 50 percent off toys.

"You're saving half-price, so why not get up and go?" she said.
