PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – You might not recognize Mayor Bill Peduto in some recently released photos.

He looks more like one of the cast members from “Duck Dynasty,” but his new look is actually for another TV show.

The transformation was for the upcoming season of “Undercover Boss” on CBS.

Peduto was contacted by the show’s producers last summer.

“They had seen YouTube videos and some other stuff and they were looking for a mayor to be on the next season and after an interview process that involved several mayors, they decided to choose Pittsburgh,” said Peduto.

He says he went ahead with the gig for several reasons.

“One was to see what people say about you when they don’t know who you are,” he said. “Second was to really be able to highlight Pittsburgh’s change and the third was to be able to help people and anyone that knows the show knows that people’s lives get changed.”

But in order to see these things, Peduto had to give up his home life for a week.

“I would get up every morning at 5 a.m., spend two hours getting into costume, go out do the thing, come back, take the costume off, put on my suit and then go to work going to events until 10 or 11 p.m., come back get five or six hours of sleep, do it again,” he said.

“It was completely exhausting,” he added. “It would probably be the biggest reason why I wouldn’t do it again.”

You can see him on, “Undercover Boss” premiering on CBS Dec. 14.

Mayor Peduto will appear on the Dec. 21 episode.
