Steelers First Lady Kiya Tomlin Featured On HBO's "State Of Play"

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A new episode of the NFL documentary show "State of Play" will feature Mike Tomlin's wife, Kiya.

Kiya was contacted by HBO for a new take on the show featuring NFL "first ladies."

"They wanted to see how women who are married to prominent sports figures, just how we support our husbands and the different ways we do it," she said.

They chose Kiya because of her designer clothing line called Uptown Sweats.

"I am the only, if not one of the only, head coach's wife in the NFL that works, so that was intriguing to me," Kiya said.

After saying no twice, she decided to run it by Mike, who was at training camp and told her to find out more and consider doing it.

Once committed, she was relieved to find out HBO needed very little from the Steelers head coach.

"I didn't want to involve him, because it's his busy time of the year, so it's good they weren't really interested in him," she said.

But don't expect to see much of the Tomlin children or the couple's home – both were off limits.
However, the film crew didn't miss much else. The crew even rode with her to New York when she took her Uptown Sweats to a trade show. And they did get a little bit of Mike.

"The little five-minute ride to work and they went on a date night with us to Spoon," Kiya said.
But listening to them talk on their date, don't expect to hear any X's and O's.

"That's how I protect Mike," Kiya said. "Everyone wants to talk to him about football. I don't think he should have to come home to it and have me talk about football."

And she says the coach doesn't come home, only Mike the husband and father comes through the door.

"He leaves it at the door," she said. "He does. It's impressive."

You can see the show airing on HBO Tuesday at 10 p.m.
