After 3 Water Main Breaks, Boyce Road Set To Re-Open

SOUTH FAYETTE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Three water main breaks, and more than a month later, there is good news in the future of Boyce Road.

Boyce road winds down the valley from Washington Road to Mayview and is a popular cross route from Bridgeville to Rt 19 in Upper St Clair.

But for a long frustrating month it's been closed due to three water main breaks.

Those ruptures in a 36-inch Penn American Water main all occurred in one week and in close proximity to each other along Boyce Road.

The last avalanche of water took out the pavement from a chunk of the road leaving PennDot and PennAmerican no choice but to shut the road down for repairs.

Once the digging began PennAmerican decided the best plan was to replace a 15-hundred foot section of its main and the infrastructure around it.

That is why it has taken a month to get the work done.

The final repaving of Boyce Road was completed Wednesday, but there is still more to be done.

PennAmerican spokesman Gary Lobaugh says they are slowly recharging the water line to bring it up to full pressure.

They want to make sure it's not going to fail again somewhere else prompting another emergency repair.

So until they know the line is going to hold the road remains closed.

Simultaneously quality testing of the water in the line is being done to make sure it's safe and a couple more days of those test are needed.

As of now if all goes as planned PennAmerican tells KDKA Boyce Road should fully reopen at 5:30 Saturday morning.
