Salvation Army, Walmart Team Up To Make Christmas Come Early For Local Kids
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign has been helping people since the late 1800s.
This week, the charitable organization paired up to with Walmart to take some kids shopping.
Christmas came early for a couple dozen kids in the North Fayette area this week.
"Walmart has invited 20 children to come to visit with Santa and have a wonderful shopping trip. They gave them $50 gift cards to Walmart and it was a surprise to everyone," Salvation Army Major Cynthia Foster said.
Some of the kids were as young as three and while others were a bit older, they were still very excited to shop.
Some of the shoppers were as old as 15, but still enjoyed their time with Santa.
"The different things at Christmas so that we can help families in need and it's just a great opportunity to give back to the community and really just enjoy the kids. They are awesome here. Seeing them shop and smile when they see Santa, it's great," North Fayette Walmart Manager Karen Kallam said.
The night started with a photo op for each of the kids to have their picture taken with Santa
For the Salvation Army, it was chance to serve families at Christmas.
"We really thank Walmart for their support of the Salvation Army and all that they do to really make this season. We are so grateful that they were able to do this for the families as well," Foster said.
