2 Officers Injured By Alleged Port Vue Drunk Driver

PORT VUE (KDKA) – A Port Vue Police officer was injured after being hit by a suspected drunk driver Friday morning.

According to emergency dispatchers, the incident happened in the 300-block of Port Vue Road around 10 a.m.

A female officer was responding to a burglar alarm at a bar when a suspected drunk driver struck a wall and a fire hydrant before striking her.

Police say 55-year-old Bruce Bradshaw was driving wildly up Port Vue Avenue before he hit the officer.

The officer was out of her vehicle when she was hit and suffered back injuries. She was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment.

Liberty Borough Police Chief Luke Riley also responded to the scene.

When he arrived, he tried to secure the suspect's vehicle as the suspect was laying in the front seat. At that time, the suspect put the car gear and hit the chief with the open car door.

He drove himself to the hospital.

"She got hurt a lot worse than me," he said. "I'm going to go down to the hospital and get checked out."

Police say Bradshaw from Westmoreland County was uncooperative and tried to escape. He backed his truck on a guardrail and was also taken to the hospital.

His car was littered with empty beer cans from a case behind the backseat.

Bradshaw is facing DUI and other charges.
