Mike Tomlin Not Looking For Apology From NFL For Worilds Hit

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Coming off his team's 27-20 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, head coach Mike Tomlin held his weekly meeting with the media.

Tomlin addressed the roughing the passer call on Jason Worilds for his vicious, but clean hit on Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.

"Those calls are being made every weekend and in every stadium in today's NFL," Tomlin said. "You can waste a lot of time crying about it; I want to play within the rules, our group wants to play within the rules because when we do it, it increases our chances of winning, and when we wear negativity and not move past plays like that, it hampers our efforts."

Tomlin also discussed whether or not he has received an apology from the league for blowing that call.

"I didn't get any, but I'm not looking for one," Tomlin added. "I don't have time to wait for calls from New York. We got a big game this week and we're moving on to Kansas City."

Red Zone Woes

Despite putting up 27 points on the Falcons, the Steelers found themselves settling for field goals as they have many times this year in the red zone.

Tomlin addressed that saying his team needs to be better, especially this week against a good red zone defense in the Kansas City Chiefs.

"I thought our drives stalled there in the early portions of the game in the red area, or the outer edge of the red area," Tomlin said.  "We had to settle for field goals, and we got to be better than that this week obviously."

Tomlin elaborated on that point saying how tough it will be in the red zone against the Chiefs next week.

"Kansas City's got the number one red zone defense in the National Football League.  Couple that with our inability to capitalize in that area from time to time over the course of the season and the initial stages last week.  We'll be working hard in that area this week.

Injury Report

Tight End Matt Spaeth hyper-extended his elbow in the game against the Falcons and Tomlin said they'd "have to watch him this week."  Mike Mitchell strained his groin against the Falcons, and despite going back into the game, Tomlin said they'll monitor him this week.

There are a number of players who missed the game against the Falcons that Tomlin said they could get back this week as linebacker James Harrison, cornerback Ike Taylor and right tackle Marcus Gilbert will be evaluated throughout the week.
