Police Seek Suspect Who Shot Dog Between Eyes, Left It To Die

NORTH BRADDOCK (KDKA) -- Police are asking for help to find the person who shot and killed a dog and left its body along a road in North Braddock.

"There were multiple sections of blood which makes me think the dog may have been thrashing around because it didn't die right away," said Dawn Weichler, of On Your Tail Dog Search & Rescue group.

When Weichler took a closer look, she discovered that the black Shepherd-Lab mix had a bullet wound between the eyes.

The dog was found on O'Connell Boulevard near the Edgar Thompson Works late Monday.

Weichler, an animal rescue volunteer, was called to the scene.

"This dog looked well groomed, it's nails were trimmed, it was very clean, it was healthy, it wasn't starving or anything," she said.

The question now is, who shot the dog and why?

"I think it's terrible," said Chief Dean Bazzone, of North Braddock Police. "Why would you do that? Why would you do such a thing? There's so many other things you can do with a dog if you don't want it."

Weichler says there are many alternatives to save an unwanted animal's life.

"There are pages all over Facebook that you can find different alternatives if your dog needs to find a new place," she said. "There are rescues you can look up breed specific rescues if you need one."

The police chief is asking for help from anyone who travels on that busy road.

"I just wish that if somebody in the community or the surrounding communities seen anything would come forward so we can figure this out," said Chief Bazzone.
