PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Sunnyside Elementary School in Pittsburgh’s Morningside section was put on lockdown Wednesday afternoon when a shooting victim was found dead on school property.
According to Pittsburgh Public School officials, the man’s body was found inside a blue car in the school’s parking lot.
Officials say a parent coming to pick up his daughter first noticed the vehicle, which was missing a window.
The parent, who did not want to be identified, said he went inside to notify the principal.
“My girlfriend and I came to pick our daughter up at school, and about 2:55, I noticed there was a window broke out of the car in the parking lot,” he said. “I went inside and told the principal in the principal’s office that there was a window broken out in a car outside. She had wanted me to go out and look at the vehicle and get a plate number to find out what was going on, and when I came back out to the car, I noticed three bullet casings on the ground and there was a black male slumped over the driver’s side seat into the passenger’s side.”
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identifies the victim as 20-year-old Jordan Kearney from Pittsburgh.
Police also say there was a report of shots fired in the same area around 11 p.m. Tuesday. But there’s no word yet if it was related.
The school was put on lockdown after the discovery as a precaution. It was lifted around 4 p.m. and students were allowed to board buses.
Some concerned parents also began gathering nearby and were allowed to pick up their children when the lockdown was over.
