Man Dies In Fire In Jackson Township

JACKSON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A man is dead following a house fire Thursday night in Butler County.

The fire started around 7:00 p.m. along Beahm Crest Lane in Jackson Township.

Neighbors reported hearing an explosion, then seeing a mobile home completely engulfed in flames. The flames could still be seen two hours after the fire started.

Firefighters found the man inside the home. The home was leveled by the fire.

Neighbors have identified the man as 67-year-old Richard Butler.

"The state fire marshal did some investigating," said Assistant Harmony VFC Chief Dale Hall. "He'll have to come back when it's light out and some of the steam dies down. But it appears to have started from an outside wood burner that was next to the trailer."

Firefighters had a tough time battling the fire because the home was on a rural road and was hard to get to.

Units from several departments were on scene to help. Assistant Chief Hall said the roads were slick too.

We didn't run into any problems, "Just the roads being slick, it's a long drive back off the road, the driveway was slick.  No one was injured fighting the fire."

The state fire marshal was expected to be on the scene Friday morning.
