Driver Crashes Into Latrobe Home, Takes Off
LATROBE (KDKA) – A driver slammed into a Westmoreland County home, leaving a trail of damage, before taking off into the night. But pieces left behind may be just the clues police need to catch up with the person responsible.
Workers spend the better part of Thursday making sure part of Lee Kinty's home didn't fall in on itself.
"About 1:30 [a.m.], it was one big boom. It sounded like an explosion," said Kinty.
And a look outside Kinty's Latrobe home kind of looks like a blast zone - debris everywhere, and tire tracks from the mysterious vehicle that slammed into the home clearly visible.
"He was moving. It looks like he just plowed through," Kinty said. "I don't know if you noticed them in the yard or not, but there's three concrete blocks together, he knocked them from the house up to the driveway.
The damage is significant, but a few more feet to the right and this this could have been a tragedy.
KDKA's Ross Guidotti: "How close from the impact area were you guys sleeping?"
Kinty: "Probably, about five feet."
The person responsible may think they made a clean get away, but the devil is in the details, or in this case, the debris.
"State troopers say they got part of a grill and they say it may be a Chevy pickup or a big Chevy SUV," Kinty said.
Total damage to the home is unknown, but it's insured and can be repaired. Kinty now says he wants the driver who did it found.
"It got me mad," he said.
Because there is so much evidence of the vehicle that hit the house still lying around, state police say there's got a good chance of figuring out who is responsible.
