Pitt Football Great Ruben Brown Elected To College Football Hall Of Fame

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The 2015 College Football Hall of Fame class has been announced and this year's class includes former Pitt star offensive tackle Ruben Brown.

A star at Pitt from 1991-94, Brown becomes the 24th Pitt player or coach to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

In a statement released through the university, Brown said "This honor goes well beyond me. Everyone at Pitt shares this recognition. I'm so indebted to the many people who mentored, coached and guided me as a person and player over the years. I'm thrilled to accept this honor on everyone's behalf and could not be more humbled and appreciative."

New Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi also weighed in on the honor.

"Our entire program congratulates Ruben on this incredibly deserved honor," Narduzzi said. "I had the opportunity to speak to him on the phone this week and his pride in the University of Pittsburgh is obvious. He is a true 'Pitt Man' and I know everyone is extremely proud of him."

It was an interesting road Brown took to becoming a dominant offensive lineman at Pitt as he joined the program as a standout defensive lineman out of E.C. Glass High in Virginia.

After making the transition to the offensive side of the ball, Brown became a four-year starter at Pitt earning Big East honors three times and being named a first team All-American as a senior.

The college success for Brown paid off when he was drafted in the first round, 14th overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 1995 NFL Draft. Brown made it to eight consecutive Pro Bowls as an offensive guard from 1996-2003 and was named to Buffalo's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team in 2009.

Brown joined the Starkey and Mueller show and said playing at Pitt he always admired the guys in the Hall of Fame but didn't think he'd one day be one of them.

"I had admired all the guys that were on the wall there," Brown said. "How much did I want to be up there with those guys? A ton but I didn't think I would measure up...This is an awesome, awesome deal."
