Police Make Arrest In String Of Armed Street Robberies

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a string of street robberies in the city.

Pittsburgh Police and U.S. Marshals took 18-year-old Gene Brown, of the Hill District, into custody on Monday afternoon during a traffic stop in the 6000-block of Shakespeare Street.

The arrest was part of an undercover operation.

Brown is accused in three robberies, all of them happened in December.

The first at the intersection of Bryn Mawr Road and Iowa Street on Dec. 14 around 10 p.m. The second happened on Dec. 27 around 11:50 p.m. along Reed Street. The third happened a day later on Dec. 28 just after 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Centre Avenue and Francis Street.

Police say they found six bags of crack cocaine in the jitney Brown was riding in at the time of his arrest.

He is facing charges of robbery, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of communication.
