Local Woman's "Another Mother" Business Catching On, Expanding

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A local woman has come up with an idea that appears to be catching on.

It's a called "Another Mother," a service where they perform the chores you'd expect a parent might do.

Ilene Scoratow operates her business in Pittsburgh's East End.

"As 'Another Mother,' we do grocery shopping, laundry and cleaning services," said Scoratow.

She also picks up prescriptions, drops off dry cleaning and even does dishes. But she says the laundry is the most popular.

By day, Scoratow is a Spanish teacher in Pittsburgh Public Schools, but in the afternoons, evenings and weekends, she's busy with chores.

However, she's not alone. She has a staff of three others, including two men. (One of which is her husband.)

Scoratow says when she was researching businesses; this seemed like a low-cost start-up that had a need.

She assumed she would target the elderly and students as possible clients. But in the year since she's opened, she's found young professionals and young parents are contacting her. She has about 40 clients in all.

By the way, when she's done with everyone else's chores, she has three little ones of her own.

She charges $1.50 a pound for laundry, $8 for grocery delivery, and charges by room for house cleaning.

Scoratow joined "The KDKA Morning News" with Larry Richert and John Shumway to talk about the success of 'Another Mother.'

If you're interested in employing the services of 'Another Mother,' Scoratow says, "Go to our website and from there, you can put in your grocery order."

She adds when she drops off your groceries she'll pick up your laundry and does it at her home.
