Light Snow Showers Moving Through Area

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Some light snow has moved into the area this afternoon, and the National Weather Service is warning that it could cut down on visibility on local roads.

Forecasters are calling for periods of moderate to heavy snow.

KDKA Meteorologist Dennis Bowman says today we'll see cloudy conditions with a rain or snow shower in spots with a coating in some locations and a high of 38.

"Those snow showers are really covering things pretty good from basically Washington, Beaver, Lawrence counties and then eastward on into the Kittanning, Ford City area in Armstrong County," said KDKA Meteorologist Dennis Bowman. "Pretty good fetch of snow right behind that, so this is going to be active enough that somebody's going to see a half, three quarters of an inch of snow, especially north of the city of Pittsburgh."

To the south, Bowman says those areas will be dealing with mainly rain.

Heading into tonight, Bowman says there will be a bit of snow late but no accumulation. But we could be in for a slushy mess on Wednesday.

"Late tonight into tomorrow morning, probably after 4 a.m., we start running the risk of seeing a little snow shower activity moving through here," he said. "So we would not expect any accumulation by the morning rush, but as this low continues to travel on through, snow showers mixing with rain at times just to make a little bit of a slushy mess for your Wednesday, a coating to an inch of accumulation in spots."
