Clayton Richard: Feels Like He Has New Arm

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Pitcher Clayton Richard, a hopeful to make the Pirates rotation in 2015, joined Dan Zangrilli on Bucco Talk.

Richard told Zangrilli that he's finally feeling good after having surgery to address thoracic outlet syndrome last year.

"I've been off the mound a couple of times already this year, and it's terrific to feel like you have a new arm where for so long I was pitching with a shoulder that wasn't working correctly and never felt good. It's a lot of fun this offseason to be throwing without that pain," Richard said.

Richard said that a hurdle has been overcoming bad mechanics that he developed when he pitched with the bad shoulder.

"I'm throwing with a healthy shoulder, and I need to start throwing like I'm throwing with a healthy shoulder. I was fortunate enough to get to go to mini-camp and work with Ray Searage for a little bit. He had some very good observations that have helped me out, and I'm just trying to get on top of that and move forward in the right direction," Richard said.
