Travis Snider Traded To Orioles

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Pirates outfielder Travis Snyder is headed to Baltimore.

It was reported by Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun earlier today, that the Pirates were closing in on a deal that will send Snider to the Orioles.

Connolly added that it was possible the Pirates would be receiving one or two minor-leaguers in return for Snider.

The Pirates said they acquired Stephen Tarpley, a left-handed pitcher, and another yet-to-be-named player.

The 21-year-old Tarpley spent the entire 2014 season with Aberdeen in the New York-Penn League and went 3-5 with a 3.68 ERA (66.0ip/27er) and 60 strikeouts in 13 games (12 starts). He led the Aberdeen staff in starts, innings pitched and starts while also ranking tied for fifth in the league in K's.

Tarpley was Baltimore's third-round selection (98th pick overall) in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft and made his professional debut that summer with the GCL Orioles, where he posted a 2.14 ERA (21.0ip/5er) and 25 strikeouts in seven starts.

Last year, playing in a reserve role for most of the season, Snider hit .264 with 13 home runs and 38 RBI.

Pirates will likely have Andrew Lambo, Corey Hart and Jose Tabata battle to be the 4th outfielder this season as Spring Training starts next month.
