Mysterious Footprints Lead To Residents' Sheds In Peters Twp.

PETERS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Police are trying to find the story behind some mysterious footprints in Peters Township.

Police say they've received multiple complaints from residents who say they found footprints in the snow leading to backyard sheds or storage buildings.

The homes are located on Hemlock, Stratford, Oakwood and Sheffield streets in the Stratford Manor neighborhood.

At least three were reported, then officers discovered more.

"We have three reports, but the initial responding officer walked through, tried to track the footprints and I think there was about four or five other homes involved where footprints were observed," said Peters Township Police Chief Harry Fruecht.

However, none of the people have reported anything missing. But police have noticed a pattern.

"He appears to be checking the shed," said Fruecht. "He's not opening it. There was one shed that had rock laying against it to hold the door closed, he never moved the rock."

People in the neighborhood didn't want to be identified, but said they're aware of what's happening.

Police say they don't think it's a homeless person looking for a place to stay warm, because they think they know where the suspect lives.

They're urging everyone to be cautious and keep their sheds locked.

"If you are out walking, have an ID with you," said Fruecht. "Don't be offended if we stop and say hello and ask you to identify yourself because we are trying to apprehend this guy."
