Another Round Of Snow Moving Through Area With Temperatures Set To Plunge

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – After a day of warmer temperatures, another round of snow is blanketing the area and temperatures are set to plunge once again.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from Crawford, Mercer and Venango counties through 3 a.m.

KDKA Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla says the arctic front is pushing in tonight with some snow showers. We could see between one to three inches.

"Everyone will see a period of snow showers," he said. "The bulk of which is likely going to accumulate early tonight as we head through this evening and the first part of the overnight period. By the time we get to daybreak [Thursday] and probably before that, any accumulating snows will be wrapping up and there'll be a few lingering flurries. Between now and then though, expect to be on average a couple of inches of snow."

During the snow, people out driving are advised to prepare for roads becoming snow-covered quickly and slippery conditions.

After the snow wraps up, Verszyla says were headed back down into the deep freeze.

"Bigger news tomorrow outside of a morning flurry is a temperature drop," he said.

Verszyla says temperatures will be 25 to 28 degrees colder on Thursday than they were on Wednesday.

However, he says it won't last long.

"As the day wears on [Thursday], high pressure starts to build in. Again, that's going to help to break the clouds for afternoon sunshine, but the cold air mass will win out [Thursday]," said Verszyla. "And then on Friday, we'll reverse everything as the flow's going to start coming more out of the west and southwest and temperatures will quickly jump to near 30 on Friday."
