Sharon Woman Charged, Accused Of "Intentionally" Starving Animals

HERMITAGE (KDKA) -- Humane officials have filed charges against a Mercer County woman who they say intentionally starved three dogs and a cat.

Cortney Kishton, of Sharon, is facing four counts of animal cruelty.

According to the Humane Society of Mercer County, Kishton turned over two of the dogs to a relative on Jan. 30. Both were emaciated and rushed to an emergency veterinary facility.

Officials say one of the dogs had to be resuscitated.

On that same day, a humane officer served a warrant at Kishton's home and removed another emaciated dog, a Lab mix.

In a press release, the Humane Society of Mercer County said: "We feel that these animals were intentionally not being fed. They were in the house of Cortney Kiston where she could see the animals losing weight. The veterinarians after examination of the animals found no other medical reasons for the gross amount of weight loss other than not being given food."

All the seized animals are now being boarded at an animal facility in Ohio.

If you would like to help the animals, donations are being accepted for their ongoing care:
