Monessen Middle School Students Given 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Puzzles
MONESSEN (KDKA) -- It's a sexually graphic book that's about to hit the big screen.
But before "Fifty Shades of Grey" even debuts; it's already affecting a group of people too young to even see it.
The "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie doesn't hit theaters until Friday, but it's already making waves in an unlikely place, Monessen Middle School in Westmoreland County.
Several students reportedly were given or somehow got their hands on a word search puzzle with words like "bondage," "sensuality," and "submissive," all words relating to the steamy book turned movie.
Joshua Kramer, a senior at Monessen High School told KDKA's Brenda Waters he didn't see the puzzle, but heard about it.
Kramer: "I heard it had a lot of raunchy stuff in it, not good at all. It was kind of ridiculous."
Waters: "How many kids would you say actually got this puzzle?"
Kramer: "About four of five."
Waters: "So it wasn't something a teacher handed out to the class?"
Kramer: "No it was during ISS."
Waters: "What is ISS?"
Kramer: "In school suspension."
Waters: "So the kids were in suspension and just happened to come across this?"
Kramer: "Yes."
The puzzle became public when several parents complained about it at Tuesday night's school board meeting, then word spread quickly.
Carol Liscik says she was appalled.
"I think that's a shame," she said. "From what I heard about that book, it's very racy. And for those students to get this, it's really something."
The superintendent of the district would only say there is an ongoing investigation, this is a personnel issue and the children in the district are safe.
