Sheriff's Deputy Who Tested Positive For Cocaine Turns In Badge
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Sheriff's Deputy who recently tested positive for cocaine has turned in his badge.
Richard Dwyer was officially fired Friday.
He was forced to take a drug test after being part of a police-involved shooting that led to the death of an abuse suspect.
Dwyer is expected to appeal the decision.
It was by all accounts a justified shooting.
Accused child molester Leslie Sapp was shot and killed last month by several officers after investigators say Sapp brandished a very lethal-looking pellet gun.
Sapp was hit at least four times; at least one of those shots coming from Sheriff Deputy Richard Dwyer, a 20-plus year veteran of the sheriff's office.
But after the shooting, informed sources said that a mandatory drug test of the deputy after the shooting revealed that Dwyer had trace amounts of cocaine in his system.
Dwyer had been on administrative leave while officials investigated.
