Loved Ones Raising Money For Monroeville Mall Shooting Victims' Recovery

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A week after the shooting at Monroeville Mall on a busy Saturday night, one victim has been released from the hospital.

Mary Grace Singleton was released from Forbes Hospital Friday, while her husband Tom remains in critical condition there. The alleged target of the shooting, Davon Jones has been upgraded to fair condition.

The Singletons were in the wrong place at the wrong time when gunfire erupted inside Macy's. Mary Grace Singelton's good friend and co-worker, Michelle Lashley, has a message from her friend for the public.

"Mary Grace is asking for thoughts and prayers to continue for Tom," said Lashley. "She says they seem to be helping and as far as the recovery goes, they're going to require extensive physical therapy months down the road."

But Lashley and others have begun a fundraising effort for the Singletons on the GoFundMe.com website to help the family with that long road to recovery.

At the site www.gofundme.com/singletonfamily, $3,500 was raised by 65 people in four days. They expect more will come.

Lashley says the Singleton family's reputation as givers helped inspire her to launch the fundraising effort.

"I have never known Mary Grace to ask for anything in her life," she said. "She gives all year long. I've never in all honesty met anyone so selfless in my life and if there's anything that we can do to give back to her, she takes care of everyone at work. It's like family and she's the one making sure that everyone's taken care of. She never thinks of herself. She only thinks of everyone else. Her family is a very selfless family and in the event that this occurred to another family, I know that they would be the first ones there supporting their community," she said.
