Get Marty: Family Wants Compensation After Car Hit Twice By Salt Truck

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A Pittsburgh family's car hit was hit two times by a City Public works salt truck.

They complained to the city, but haven't heard a thing. That's when they decided to Get Marty.

Bernadette Washington is tired of this narrative. For the second time in three months, she says a City Public Works salt truck has plowed into her husband's car.

"A big crunch ... a big salt truck had run into the car," she said.

That was the first accident, the day after last Thanksgiving. A Public Works salt truck backed into her husband's car.

"Three thousand, one hundred twenty one dollars, total loss," said Washington.

The second accident happened in January. This time a Pittsburgh Public Works salt truck hit her husband's car from the other side.

Washington says it happened on the same hill, to the same car, by the same public works truck – and they've gotten no compensation.

The family car has now been totaled and towed away. Their insurance coverage only covers people they hit, so they are left without a car.

They filed a claim with the city in November.

"I'm sick of this," said Washington. "I think somebody should get somebody's butt moving to do something."

KDKA's Marty Griffin reached out to the city. They said an accident like this would take eight to 10 weeks to process.

Although it's past that amount of time, the city says it's being processed.
