Firefighters Battle Flames At Jeannette Salon

WESTMORELAND COUNTY (KDKA) – Firefighters battled flames at a salon in Jeannette Sunday morning.

The fire started at Qua Spa on Clay Avenue.

Heavy fire was reported through the roof, firefighters had to use a ladder truck to attack the flames.

Debra Garvin called 911 from her restaurant across the street, after she spotted smoke coming from the building.

"Actually, it was a lot of smoke," she said. "It was billowing from the corner."

Jeannette firefighters had a lot of help from nearby departments. The fire was put out quickly and was contained to one building, but the damage was already done.

"There's heavy damage to the roof area, the main beams are burned through," said Jeannette Fire Chief Joseph Matijevic.

The fire comes as a blow to the downtown Jeannette business district and officials say the salon has only been open a year. The full-service salon specialized in hair, nails, facials, tanning and massages.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire chief says rebuilding the business is going to take some work.

"It's going to take extensive work that's for sure," said Matijevic. "We saved a good bit of her equipment on the first and second floor. Nothing but smoke damage, it's mostly water damage on the first floor and basement."
