Beaver Co. D.A.'s Office Reviewing Baden Financial Records

BADEN (KDKA) -- Beaver County District Attorney Anthony Berosh confirms that his office is reviewing the financial records and books at the Baden Tax Collector's Office.

Sources told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti that the focus of the investigation is not the duly-elected tax collector, Cynthia Kristek, but her husband, Keith Kristek.

He has been running the office for a long time, effectively serving as deputy tax collector in the borough.

Kristek told KDKA, "My wife has not been in office for 10 years. Any discrepancies are totally my responsibility."

Berosh says it's too early to estimate the amount of money that has disappeared from both Baden and the Ambridge School District, but sources say it's a "substantial amount."

Berosh would not say how long the investigation would take.

Cynthia Kristek has repeatedly run for office without opposition and been re-elected. She was a former school teacher in Monaca.

Criminal charges could be filed sometime this week.
