Man Dies After Crashing Car Into Fayette Co. Beauty Shop

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) – A Fayette County man died Tuesday afternoon when the Jeep Compass he was driving crashed into a Uniontown beauty salon.

The crashed happened around 4:15 p.m. at Suzzie Joe's Beauty Salon on West South Street.

The driver's name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Police said the driver was stopped at a red light; he suddenly accelerated, hit another vehicle, and then crashed into the salon.

Emily Patrick, who works as a bartender at a restaurant across the street, said she heard a scraping sound, looked outside and saw the jeep in the salon.

"The police had to break into the vehicle that had collided into the building," said Patrick. "They broke the windshield and rear [window] on the driver's side and were able to open up that side, driver's side door and pulled the man out of the car."

Patrick said she saw first responders giving the driver CPR before he was taken away to Uniontown Hospital.

It appeared he suffered a medical emergency, or some sort of a seizure seconds before or just after the crash.

"I just thought, wow that's terrible that he actually ran into the building, but it was obvious that before the emergency personnel were able to come to the scene there were other bystanders that went up to the car to try to see if the man could get out, but he wasn't responding," Patrick said.

Luckily, the beauty salon was closed at the time of huge crash.
