DA: Club Ivy Owner Surrendering Liquor License, Closing

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Allegheny County district attorney says a Pittsburgh nightclub is voluntarily closing and its owner surrendering his license to the Liquor Control Board after a shooting that wounded one man and saw five others hurt by broken glass.

Spokesman Mike Manko says Unrico Abbondanza made that decision after meeting with District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. on Wednesday about the shooting at Ivy Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh police were still searching for the man who opened fire Sunday about 1 a.m. The victim was wounded in the thigh and finger.

Abbondanza's home telephone was disconnected Wednesday.

But Manko says Abbondanza was "extremely cooperative" during the meeting and concluded "the wellbeing of the Strip District community" was more important than his nightclub.

The Strip District is a warehouse and retail district that has been partially redeveloped with restaurants and clubs.
