That’s where the Pittsburgh Home Garden Show comes in.

Hundreds of exhibitors cover ten acres of space this year. They’re from all 50 states, but some are from right around the corner like Lexmar USA in McKeesport.

“With kitchens and granite, we are getting people who are seriously looking for a local company who can do their work,” Ron Hallas said.

When you tire of looking at kitchens and windows and doors, you can take a sweet break at Holman’s Candies out of Baden.

“Everything is made fresh. We start Monday. It’s all made by today and then we just refill as we go,” Nancy Holman said.

The fourth generation candy company makes everything by hand — and despite spending all day at the show, they have to make more candy every day.

“With the fresh dipped chocolate covered strawberries, we make them every morning. We start at 4 a.m., make them so they are ready by 9 and then, my husband runs them and then he’ll run them run them back and forth all day,” Holman said.

One of this year’s marquee attractions is an impressive redwood home.

“My grandfather built the house in 1939. He was a logger. He traded the lumber company he worked this section of log for work. It took him four months to bore out the wood inside and a year-and-a-half to complete the house,” Jamie Allen said.

Regardless of what you are looking for, you can find it during the next ten days under one roof at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

“The people who are experts about that product are there to answer your questions. The best part of all then is that because you are talking to them about whatever that product is, they know you are going to go down the aisle and talk to their competitor. So, they have to sharpen their pencil and give you the best price as well. So, you not only get to look and actually touch all of those things, you are considering but you actually end up getting the best price in the process too,” John DeSantis said.
