Wildcats Shoot The Lights Out In Win Over Duquesne, 107-78

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) — Duquesne's final home game of the season started off as a fast paced, back and forth style contest against Davidson and for the first 16 minutes it looked like it could have been anyone's game. But the Wildcats phenomenal shooting could not be stopped in the 107-78, Duquesne loss at the A.J. Palumbo Center.

Tyler Kalinoski led Davidson (23-6, 14-4 A10) with 32 points and shot an incredible 12-14 from the floor and 8-10 from behind the arc. As a team, the Wildcats finished with a 61.5 percent FG percentage and had 35 assists on 40 baskets.

"We got beat really good today by the best team in our league and by a team that is significantly better than us," head coach Jim Ferry said. "I've never seen a shooting performance like that."

Davidson was up 25-20 with 12:10 left to go in the first half when TySean Powell got hot off the bench to keep the Dukes' chances alive. He scored 10 quick consecutive points for Duquesne, including a huge dunk to tie it at 30 with 8:15 left in the first half.

"We were trading baskets with them, they are the top 3-point shooting team in the conference and we are second, they are top tempo team in the conference and we are second," head coach Jim Ferry said. "And that's how it played out it was up and down up and down."

The dunk from Powell was a huge moment in the game for the Dukes but they were unable to keep up with Davidson from that point on. The Wildcats went on a 13-0 run that was finally broken by a 3-pointer from Micah Mason to make it 43-33 with 3:29 left to go. Mason's 3-pointer turned out to be the final points that Duquesne would score in the first half, as Davidson followed with a 12-0 run to close out the half leading 55-33.

"They are one of the most efficient, potent and dynamic offensive teams that I have seen in all my years coaching," Ferry said. "The efficiency in which they play at with ball movement and shooting they are one of the best passing teams I've ever been around."

With under 10 minutes to in the second half, Kalinoski hit another 3-pointer to give Davidson a 30 point lead.

"It felt like it was just a blistering barrage of threes and timeouts and everything and we just couldn't contain them," Ferry said.

Jordan Barham scored 20 points for Davidson, including 4 from behind the arc. Jack Gibbs had 19 points and Brian Sullivan scored 11 for the Wildcats.

Prior to Saturday's game against Davidson, Duquesne (11-18, 6-12 A10) had not lost a game at home since the 100-97 overtime loss to St. Bonaventure on January 22.

Micah Mason led Duquesne with 17 points, Dominique McKoy finished with 15 and TySean Powell scored 12.

The victory secured the Atlantic-10 regular season championship for the Wildcats, a preseason pick to finish 12 in the league.

"They are going to give someone major problems in the NCAA Tournament because you just don't see teams like that, you just don't," Ferry said.
