Pirates' Starter Brandon Cumpton Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - According to the team's website, Pirates starter Brandon Cumpton underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday.

Cumpton bounced between AAA and the majors the last two years providing the big league club with an insurance arm for when any of their starters missed time.

In that role in 2014, Cumpton pitched in 16 games, starting 10 of them and went 3-4 with an ERA of 4.89.

In his first taste of the bigs in 2013, Cumpton appeared in 6 games, starting 5 and went 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA.

Pirates General Manager Neal Huntington released a statement through the team's website saying that "Brandon has begun the normal recovery progression.

The normal recovery time from Tommy John surgery is between 12 and 18 months.
