BEAVER FALLS (KDKA) – A house fire in Beaver County left one woman and her dogs dead early Sunday morning.

According to officials at the scene, the fire started at a home on 12th Avenue in Beaver Falls around 3:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames and heavy smoke.

"I opened the door, the smoke – oh my goodness – it was so thick you couldn't see [anything] and I started screaming and yelling. I reached in trying to feel for somebody,"

"I opened the door, the smoke – oh my goodness – it was so thick you couldn't see [anything] and I started screaming and yelling. I reached in trying to feel for somebody," neighbor George Mali said. "I've never seen smoke that thick. When I opened that door, the heat just hit me."

The 31-year-old woman's body was found outside of her bedroom. Her three dogs also died in the fire.

"There was just nothing we could do. The fire was already clear through the structure. Shortly after arrival, what wasn't on fire initially, flashed over. There was just nothing we could do to save her," Beaver Falls Fire Chief Mark Stowe said.

The woman's name has not been released and the state fire marshal is investigating the cause.

Neighbors said the victim was a nursing student who was planning on graduating this spring.
