Zoo Keepers Prepare Spring Surprise Treats For Lions, Goats

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Carnivore keeper Mark McDonough and his assistant prepare an "Easter flower" for lions. Mark says it's filled with ground up cloves - a form of catnip for very big cats.

While one lion works on the "flower," his brother is more interested in an "egg" filled with basil. The lions also respond to a variety of perfumes. And we're not talking about the cheap stuff.

"A lot of our cats, it has to be the higher end perfumes as well," McDonough says. "Like your Polos. I know our tigers will respond as well to Calvin Klein Obsession."

Meanwhile, Judy Obeldobel supervises a table setting for a herd of goats. No, the goats and cats will not be eating together.

The goats start politely, nibbling at alfalfa hay and peanuts. Then, Jasper jumps onto the table.

"You'll notice in the beginning they started out together as a group," Judy says. "And now, it's pretty much of a free-for-all."

Things deteriorate quickly.

"When the good stuff is gone, that's when they start on the paper plates and table cloth," the keeper laughs.

When it comes to goat manners, kids will be kids.
