Mother, Stepfather Charged In Indiana Co. Child Abuse Case

CLYMER, Pa. (KDKA) -- The mother of a young boy, who police say was beaten so severely he had to be hospitalized, is now behind bars in Indiana County and facing serious charges.

Police say Stephanie Green allegedly tried to cover for the boy's stepfather, Brandon, who also faces charges in the case.

Brandon Green is accused of beating the boy at the couple's apartment on West Pike Road in Indiana.

According to investigators, the alleged reason for the beating was because the boy refused to take his medicine.

"The defendant had physically kicked the child and squeezed the child to a point where the interview shows that the child actually threw up," said Trooper Mark McMahan, of Pennsylvania State Police.

Police say the child's injuries were so severe that doctors thought he'd been in a car crash.

"The nature of the injuries to the child would have been mostly upper torso and head and face injuries," said Trooper McMahan.

Police say Stephanie Green lied to investigators about what happened to the boy so that her husband wouldn't go to jail.

"She did try to develop a story to prevent that from occurring," said Trooper McMahan.

Stephanie and Brandon Green both face numerous felony charges, including attempted homicide. They are being held in the Indiana County Jail on $150,000 straight cash bond.

The boy continues to recover.
