McCutchen Leaves Spring Training Game Against Orioles

SARASOTA, Fla. (93-7 The Fan) - Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen had to leave Wednesday night's exhibition game in Sarasota, but it appears he will be okay.

"Slipped over the plate trying to get the engine started, slide a little over the plate trying to get going," McCutchen said.

McCutchen and Clint Hurdle said they were playing smart as McCutchen joked, "I think I made the team, just being smart."

The Pirates centerfielder missed nearly two weeks of Spring Training due to lower body soreness, but added, "I'm walking and I'm standing, so we're good."

McCutchen was 1 for 4 with 2 strikeouts as the Pirates tied the Orioles 3-3. Pedro Alvarez hit a 2-run bomb to right center and a double play by Gregory Polanco scored the other run.

Francisco Liriano's last appearance before opening in Cincinnati was 3 innings, 1 run (a homer), 2 strikeouts and no walks.

Gerrit Cole relieved Liriano, also going 3 innings with 3 strikeouts, a hit, a walk and no runs.

Arquimedes Caminero gave up 2 runs in the 7th inning for a blown save. Stolmy Pimentel pitched a perfect 8th.

Alvarez, Josh Harrison and Jung-Ho Kang are all expected to play in the infield as the Pirates play their final Florida Spring Training game in Tampa Thursday at 1 p.m. A.J. Burnett and Jeff Locke are expected to pitch. Andrew Lambo gets a start in left field.
