Brandon Sutter Talks Pens Struggles, Previews Rangers Series

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - With the Pittsburgh Penguins getting ready to take on the New York Rangers in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, Brandon Sutter joined the Starkey and Mueller Show to preview their matchup and talk about where the team is confidence wise.

Things opened up with Sutter talking about whether or not the panic felt by the fans down the stretch was felt in the locker room by the players as well.

"I don't really think so," Sutter said. "As players, we try to go out and win every night, that's kind of what we're used to. Obviously we didn't plan on making it quite as tight as we did at the end there, but you go out
and play and do your best, and fortunately it worked out. That's kind of why you play 82 games, it's not given to you, that's for sure. No one said it was going to be easy, and we found a way to get it done."

One of the reasons for the Pens struggles this year has been the amount of injuries they've suffered, and Sutter talks about what the five day break between their regular season finale and first round matchup will do for them.

"It's huge. To get that extra couple of days just to relax and then go to the rink and work on a few things...it really kind of rejuvenates you not only physically but kind of mentally too."
